Album Notes

Historians will rate 2 Skinnee J's alongside prohibition, communism and esperanto as one of the great failed experiments of the 20th Century. Were they doomed from the start? They lived in New York, but did New York even notice? They rapped, but weren't down with J or P. They rocked, but didn't know the Strokes. Their first record label cared more about cocaine and strippers, their second about Justin Timberlake. Yet against these odds, this motley collection of fashion forward misfits persevered for over a decade, bringing kick ass music and heart stopping shows to grateful mobs around the country. To see them was to love them. They were claimed as the hometown band by cities up and down the East coast and across the Midwest. The put out EP's and CD's of inventive rock drenched rap for the mind body and soul. They made their mothers proud.

Sadly, everything must come to an end, preferably before the introduction of Jar Jar Binks. By the end of 2002, the writing was on the wall. The industry was steadfast in their refusal to acknowledge the group's inherent right to be world wide mega stars with celebrity friends and supermodel lovers. The boys were becoming men. The landlord was knocking. Rather than meander towards oblivion, our heroes decided to booby trap the hatch and blow the ship to high heaven in a colorful polyester blast. The night of July 17, 2003, they lit the fuse.

This 3 disc set is all that remains......

they say you can always tell if a band is any good by going to their live shows, and the 2 skinnee j's were one of the best. i'm not a big fan of today's manufactured bands, but i was glad to pay for this CD (probably the first one i've bought in a year or 2). i bought their first 2 CD's (a looong time ago) but never got a chance to listen to their newer tracks. In my room is now on heavy rotation in my playlist. wish they could have gotten the recognition they deserved...

Take a good look at this setlist.... everything is there. Buy this album and your j's collection is complete. The sound is great and you really can feel the energy in the band and the crowd from that night. Can't wait to see the J's again in August!!

Seriously though. Even if you're not a major Skinnee fan, this album has what you need. It's the perfect album for a house party, bar mitzvah, or coronation. Crank it to 11 and rip off the knob. The only thing that could possibly make this better is if I had been to the concert where it was recorded. It sounds nice and live, with plenty of crowd noise between songs, but during the songs it's wonderfully clean. They definitely put some effort into recording this and making it sound good. I'm a little pissed that I'll be in Australia during their 10-year reunion shows. This CD will have to tide me over.
