The 3rd Coast String Quartet was formed in 1991 to expand the repertoire of the traditional string quartet to include jazz, blues, rock and folk music.
The quartet performs original compositions and arrangements at Chicago venues including The Bop Shop, the Hothouse, Lunar Cabaret and the Heartland Cafe.
3rd Coast has appeared live on radio stations WFMT and WCRX in Chicago, on TV in The Untouchables and performed on stage with Steppenwolf Theater in A Clockwork Orange.
Recent performances were sponsored by jazz festivals in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin; Fargo, North Dakota and Aspen, Colorado.
This album uses the instruments of the traditional string quartet (2 violins, viola, & cello) as well as electric string instruments, drums , & percussion.
The styles include jazz, latin, new age, funk, & pop.
