Goes well with: the Cramps, Fleshtones, early Elvis
Sex, drugs and rock and roll. Well, the jury's still out on the middle item in that legendary combo meal, but Sex Is Evil positively drips with the other two. With a name like 44 Double D and a record label called Panty Raid, you'd be correct in assuming that the more base human instincts are on this group's dirty little minds.
44 Double D has become infamous for their over-the-top performances, which include fetish dancers and a look that mixes a bit of sleazy, kitschy glamour with a vintage, '50s sensibility.
Such bands often fall flat when trying to isolate their music from such an extravaganza -- not so here. Left with only the music, 44 Double D still comes up a winner. Produced by the legendary Mark Neill, Sex Is Evil ,captures their live, reverb-drenched sound marvelously.
Even a cursory listen turns up Sun Records-era Elvis and the Cramps as major influences, but despite working in a field sometimes known for cliche, 44 Double D manages to stamp out its own identity, producing primitive, pounding rock and roll. No small feat.
True enough, titles like "Devil's Dance," "Heavy Petting," and "Sex with a Demon" leave little doubt as to their subject matter. Yet despite (or possibly because of) the band's feral sex obsession, thier energetic playing and -- most importantly -- some pretty killer tunes make this album solid listening from start to finish.

Swarthy Punk-a-Billy bent on stirring the libido in ways the Stray Cat's never Fathomed. 44 double D conjures up Elvis' hip shaking and genetically clones it with Ron Jeremy's pelvic thrusts. The outcome hits the mark and it is definitely out of the realm of commonality. On this alone they deserve all kinds of appreciation, but the best thing about this album is you can listen to it from start to finish without skipping a track. Lead Vocalist Enos Presley is like Elvis on Crack, he and his band deals in primal, sex driven rock. This band has filled a void , that the music world has been missing out on for quite some time.

I made my Mic stand from a stripper’s pole I got from a nudie bar supply Warehouse” says Enos Presley of the local band 44 Double D.”It was too long at First ,so I had to shorten it. I cut it with a real big saw…It’s phallic, but it also Symbolizes the great American working girls.. At the strip clubs,” says Enos. "They are considered evil by a Judeo-Christian society which preaches ‘ sex is Evil’ on Sundays, but you’ll find that same pastor at the club on Monday pulling Out money for a lap dance.”
Setting up the stage, which takes 44 Double D’s crew 15 minutes, includes six pin spots, eight floor cans, two strobes, an audio light trigger, a fog machine, and a large sighn emblazoned with the phrase “Sex Is Evil.” According to Enos, 44 Double D is like a modern day cramps, but with more glamour. He believes the performance side of the band’s music sometimes drives musicians off. “In general, it goes against the grain of most musicians,” says Enos “ A lot of these guys think [their music is] art, but all they’re playing is three chord rock and roll. The true art is in a performance that entertains the crowd. The latest departure of my guitarist proves my point: it’s hard to find people who are as enthusiastic about entertaining the crowd as they are about playing their instrument.”
Dancers Cherry Bomb and Dee Lux are a big part of entertainment at a 44 Double D show. They dress in a variety of ways, including as Catholic schoolgirls. (Enos sports a preacher’s outfit.) .
When the band performs the song “Internet Porno Cowboy,” the gals tie Enos Up with a computer mouse, plop a cowboy hat on his head, and walk off, and Enos finishes the song with his hands tied around the mic.
