Album Notes

4FRONT is an instrumental group featuring guitarist Zak Rizvi, drummer Joe Bergamini, and bassist Frank LaPlaca.

GRAVITY is their first album, re-issued in 2002 with 1 bonus track. Their second album, RADIO WAVES GOODBYE, is also available here at CD Baby.

4Front combines hard-edged progressive rock, top-notch instrumental skills, pop melodies, cinematic arrangements, and symphonic touches to create a unique tapestry of modern instrumental rock music. At times conjuring memories of Rush, Thomas Dolby, Billy Joel, John Williams, Joe Jackson, Return To Forever, Toto, Dream Theater, and classical composers such as Copland and Rachmaninoff, 4Front creates a unique sound accessible to listeners of many styles.

Drummer Joe Bergamini is also a member of the legendary prog rock group HAPPY THE MAN, and performs on Broadway in the Billy Joel / Twyla Tharp show MOVIN' OUT. He is well known to drummers as a writer for MODERN DRUMMER, and a clinician for TAMA, SABIAN, VIC FIRTH, EVANS, and LP.

Zak and Joe performed together for 11 years in the US's premier Rush tribute band, Power Windows.

Bassist Frank LaPlaca comes to the band from top NYC rock acts Eternal Vision and The Buddha Brains. He and Joe have played together for over 10 years.

4Front has performed extensively in the Eastern US and in Puerto Rico, including opening shows for SAGA, MARILLION, and KANSAS.

REVIEW BY ERIC HARABADIAN (BAXTER'S NEWSLETTER):
If you are a fan of hot fusion oriented rock-and-roll with a slight cinematic or symphonic feel you gotta check these guys out! All thirteen tracks crackle with an energy and passion that takes you from Satriani influenced lead runs to romantic piano flourishes this side of Rachmaninoff. And while progressive bands are sometimes known for their musical self indulgence, 4Front never loses sight of intelligible hooks and melodies. Oh yes, my friends, you're in for a real treat as I give these guys my highest recommendation!

REVIEW FROM MODERN DRUMMER MAGAZINE, DEC 1999:
Most experienced musicians eventually realize that a solid group effort is always more successful (and rewarding) than a bunch of virtuosos trying to outdo one another. The melodic yet hard-edged progressive rock trio 4Front have a solid grasp on the all-for-one attitude. Interesting instrumental material along with a solid production brings this New Jersey trio into contention with the best of today's prog bands. Drummer Joe Bergamini displays solid chops and an excellent sense of playing for the arrangement. His drum sound is wet and thick, suiting this style perfectly. And he thankfully chooses taste over self-indulgence. The material on Gravity is so melodic that it's easy to imagine a quality vocalist only adding to the success of this top-notch trio.

These guys are very tight and put down some big guitar tracks with blazzing riffs and very interesting compositions. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who loves great guitar jazz fusion.

Produced well, punchy drums... but for as awesome as the drums were recorded, I thought the guitar tones lacked the same thickness. OK tone, but just a tad thin... would have honored the guitarist's skill much better. Still, it's worth the buy!
