Album Notes

Founded by five young men from Madison, Wisconsin, 8889 began with a simple goal: to create songs for people who love music, and to reach as many of these people as possible. Since then, 8889 has created a sound all its own, and whether you think it's retro, beautiful, sad, sweet, bitter, passionate, or joyful, it's honest, and there's something in it for everyone.

"'Dandelions' leads off this four-song EP from 8889, who are clearly one of the best new bands of 2004. 8889 have all the essential components for a top-notch pop band: hummable, instantly memorable melodies, dead-on vocal harmonies that rival the Beatles, chord progressions that hook you in and won't let go, and lyrics that are easily remembered. This is a welcome breath of light, sweet fresh air in a world that grows increasingly dark, heavy and stinky in each passing day." -Rick's Cafe

"One of the most promising new entries on the scene, 8889 filter a modern alt-rock sensibility through their devotion to classic pop styles of the '50's, '60's, and '70's. With strong, honest songwriting and pleasing harmonies, they're crafting the sort of songs that could easily cycle through one's brain for hours on end." -Isthmus

"Loaded with a jangly pop sensibility, 8889 should please fans of simple, earnest pop from the lighter side of R.E.M. to every side of John Mayer." -The Onion

"An extremely promising young band from Wisconsin...they deliver 4 outstanding songs that have succeeded in teasing us into wanting to hear more from 8889!" -Not Lame Records

"Very cool 4-song debut by this Brit-inspired fivesome from Wisconsin...we need a full-length guys! EXCELLENT!!!" -Kool Kat Musik

Pretty good stuff, although it could stand to be produced a bit better. Good harmonies. Strong material and a definite song-writing band. Looking forward to next release.

I got this EP at an 8889 show and haven't stopped listening to it since...it definitely has tested the 'repeat' function on my cd player! 'Dandelions' is the kind of song I'm surprised isn't on the radio it is so perfectly written and performed, and the other three are all strong and addictive in their own different ways. I anxiously await their full album. GREAT JOB GUYS!

Where did these guys come from??????? I don't know where Wisconsin is, nor do I care, but these guys are very talented and probably will be scooped up by a big record label soon, I would think. I have been putting 'Dandelions' on mix cds for my friends. Good vibes...a very warm cd...perfect songs!!!
