Album Notes

A COSMIC TRAIL is a new band founded by skilled musicians who have been part of the scene for many years. The aim was, is and will be to combine many influences to create something new and unique.

The debut album “The Outer Planes” contains emotional and powerful music, enriched with atmosphere and beauty. You won’t find any vocals and you won't yearn for them – the music says everything you want to hear! Six tracks and more than 50 min. of haunting and subtle melodies with many twists and turns.

Neither this is another boring instrumental album with uninspired and predictable repetitions, nor a pseudo-technical succession of intricate parts. A COSMIC TRAIL take you on a journey into Progressive Rock, Metal, 70s Music, Ambient, Folk, soundtracks and even more!
However, everything flows just naturally and invites you to indulge and dream.
This is widescreen cinema for your ears!

State-of-the-art instrumental music

For me this is easily the best album I heard this year. Heard some snippets on their myspace page and ordered immediately. I'm a fan of instrumental music but have my problems with many of those new bands. I need my little dose melody, that's the point. Many bands deliver great atmospheres but often their songwriting is a bit boring and not very bariable. A Cosmic Trail surely don't make this mistakes. It's pure instrumental stuff but there's always something interesting going on. The themes all are enthralling and the melodies are amazing. I really love the guitar sounds, the beautiful lead passages, the interesting rhythm work and the way how different musical elements harmonize perfectly. The keyboards arrangements are very detailled and delicate and always find the right mood and the interplay of the bass guitar and the drums is intense and outstanding. Another thing is that A Cosmic Trail maybe are influenced by many artists but they actualy sound like nobody else. Really the most impressive album in a long time. My favorite tracks are "Outer Planes", "Sunken Lanes", "Navigator" and "Wide Open Spaces" but all of them are simply fantastic! The Outer Planes" touches something deep inside me, something I cannot explain but surely don't want to miss.

mind-blowing debut album!!!

Until now my fave album for 2009. Normally I’m not that much into instrumental stuff but THE OUTER PLANES simply blew me away! Each track sounds totally different than the other ones, with a constantly changing atmosphere. There’re no repeating parts and every piece lasts at least 8 minutes. The melodies are so strikingly deep and beautiful, though, that I definitely would call the album catchy. I can hear some early Oldfield here and there, some prog and even some black metal! Some parts sound very dark, some melancholic. Some are more laid back and some really heavy, I can even hear a certain soundtrack vibe on all tracks. Nevertheless, A COSMIC TRAIL are very inimitable and outstanding because I never heard an album where everything is combined in such a natural way. What I love most is that the melodies are unbelievably gorgeous. Some melodies are so beautiful and stirring that at certain parts I really had tears in my eyes. The ending of the title track is one of those moments. The samples here are too short to make up your mind but I can recommend this album to all music lovers who really search for something different. Something which is in a way memorable and progressive at the same time - challenging but still catchy! A COSMIC TRAIL really created something new which can’t be compared to anything else on the market – give it a try!

I fully agree with the review below. The album was released in 2010, not 2009, though! The best instrumental piece of music in years. I received the album last week and heard nothing else since then! I'm totally hooked on "The Outer Planes" - an instrumental masterpiece. An illustrious and melodic journey. As soon as I close my eyes I see mighty landscapes with my mind's eye!
