AARON HEICK is a Saxophonist and Woodwind player based in New York City who has worked with everyone under the sun . . . from Chaka Khan to Barbra Streisand . . . from Richard Bona to Frank Sinatra.
Aaron is finally releasing his own CD after years of being the perennial sideman. He has taken his years of experience backing up people like Chaka, Babs, Bona and ‘ol Blue Eyes (not to mention Sting, Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Carly Simon, Cyndi Lauper, Aretha Franklin, Suzanne Vega . . .) and poured it into this new CD. It reflects his love of many kinds of music and his own personal experiences traveling the world.
Aaron is joined on this CD by some of the greatest musicians New York City has to offer . . .
JIM BEARD . . . A brilliant keyboardist who has worked with Steely Dan, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, John McLaughlin. His own CDs are works of art that must be checked out as well!
WAYNE KRANTZ . . . Underground Guitar God. Wayne has led a series of groups in recent years that have been getting much well deserved attention. The most recent, a trio with Keith Carlock & Tim Lefebvre (KRANTZ CARLOCK LEFEBVRE) is truly something to behold.
JON HERINGTON . . . The guitarist’s guitarist, has been the musical director for Steely Dan for the past few years. One of the most amazing and versatile guitarists around, he’s also worked with Boz Scaggs, Madeline Peyroux, Jim Beard, Phoebe Snow, Bill Evans, Lucy Kaplansky, Jack McDuff.
HECTOR MARTIGNON . . . Keyboardist, a mainstay of the NYC latin jazz scene, has worked with Ray Barretto, Mongo Santamaría, Tito Puente, Mario Bauzá, Chico O’Farrill, Gato Barbieri, Paquito D’Rivera & Don Byron.
TIM LEFEBVRE . . . One of Aaron’s all time favorite bass players (and all around bon vivant), Tim plays both Electric & Acoustic bass on this CD. A member of Wayne Krantz’s Trio “KRANTZ CARLOCK LEFEBVRE”, he also works with Chris Botti, Uri Caine , and his own groups, Rudder, and Boomish.
JAMES GENUS . . . Bass player extrordinaire, has worked with everybody. To name just a few . . . Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Nat Adderley, Jon Faddis, Benny Golson, Bob Berg, Lee Konitz, Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis, Chick Corea & Bob James.
SHAWN PELTON . . . Drummer to the stars. A nice random sampling . . . Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Shawn Colvin, Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow, Joan Osborne, The Saturday Night Live Band . . . the list goes on.
BEN WITTMAN . . . In addition to being one of the most in demand drummers in NYC, he is also an amazing producer (check out Peter Eldridge’s “Fool No More”) . . AND a great engineer. So great in fact, that Aaron asked him to mix this CD. Ben has worked as a drummer with Paul Simon, Laurie Anderson, Jonatha Brooke, Rosanne Cash, Don Byron, Eileen Ivers, The New York Voices, and produced albums for Jennifer Kimball, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Larkin, Peter Eldridge, and Joel Harrison.
SAMUEL TORRES . . . A true rising star in the percussion world, Samuel has toured extensively with Arturo Sandoval, Richard Bona & Lila Downs. He is also a solo artist and has produced two brilliant CDs of his own music.
KOFO THE WONDERMAN . . . One of the greatest Talking Drum players you will ever hear. He is an absolute master of this instrument. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, he now lives in NYC and has worked with Harry Belafonte, Tracy Chapman, Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, and Majek Fashek. He also leads his own band “The Daylight Stars”. He’s joined on Aaron’s CD by AJAYI OLUSEGUN, aka “ AJ” on Congas. A partner in crime with Kofo for many years, AJ is also originally from Nigeria and is a long standing member of Kofo’s band, “The Daylight Stars”.
