Album Notes

These eleven songs are the survivors from (too many) years of late-night creating, scrapping, resurrecting and re-working recordings in a home studio. As the artist matured so did the songs, but each has retained an unabashed quirkiness.

Adrian gets bored easily. He likes a good groove, but the underlying chords and arrangements must be in constant motion to keep him engaged. This attitude is reflected in his own music which strives to keep the listener shifting between 'settled in' and 'pleasantly surprised'. His attention deficit also helps explain the album's stylistic diversity (spanning West-African, Bluegrass, Classical, Celtic and Pop/Rock styles, including both sung songs and instrumentals). And yet the album has a graceful cohesion bound by compelling arrangements, reliable grooves, thoughtful lyrics (or no lyrics at all), rich instrumentation (guitars, violins, mandolin, piano, banjo, marimba, bass, drums) and beautiful harmonies.

A Very Deep, Eclectic Album
author: Al Eugene

I enjoy Adrian West's album because it has multiple instruments that blend into one nice sound . The common thread throughout the album, as introduced in "Light Your Fires," is about life’s journey through the conflicts between the mind and the outside world. The album progresses with a subtle variety of retro yet modern flavors of tuneful rock inspired by Celtic, folk and experimental rock as heard in "Watery World," "Summer's Ghost" and "Every Mile." Guest vocalist Hannah Prater of the Bittersweets compliments Adrian's vocals. A few instrumentals add diversity to the eclectic album of mature themes. The title track “Chameleons and Butterflies” is about self-reflection and a new road to happiness paved with self-actualization instead of worrying about what others think. I really love how the cool melodies and meaningful lyrics connect these unique songs together.
