Album Notes

Alan Friedman, a CPA and partner in an accounting firm specializing in the music industry, has released this 2nd pop/rock CD. Like his first, he's taken his influences from groups like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Toto, and guitarists like Jimi, Clapton, Beck, Bolin and (his bar-none favorite) Steve Lukather, and written another disc of guitar-based "hook & groove" tunes entitled "What We're Made Of."

Alan and his CPA firm are immersed in the music industry, which has allowed Alan to again recruit some close friends on this CD. Drummer Jonathan Mover (Alice Cooper, Joe Satriani, Aretha Franklin, GTR, etc.) plays on all tracks, with Bobby Kimball (lead singer of Toto), Bernard Fowler (background vocalist of The Rolling Stones), Robbie Lablanc (of Blanc Faces), Vanessa Olivarez (American Idol runner-up), bassists Doug Wimbish (of Living Colour fame) and Dave Stoltz (Dickey Betts Band), guitarist Jeff Pevar (David Crosby, Graham Nash, Joe Cocker, Marc Cohn, Ray Charles, etc.), keyboardist Vince DiCola (Transformers, Rocky IV soundtracks), and many others have contributed their musical talents to this varied CD of rock, funk, pop, fusion, country and power ballads.

The tunes on this CD were all written by Alan, with a few co-writyes with singer/songwriter/percussionist and long-time friend Jennifer Lowe. Once again, this CD was recorded during non-tax-season months over the past 7 years in Alan's basement studio, and mixed at NYC's Skyline Studios by ace-engineers Fran Flannery (Fuel, Aerosmith, Creed) and Danny Bernini (NRBQ, The Power Station, Mary J. Blige).

Both this CD and Alan's prior CD ("The Test of Time") have already created a "buzz" in Japan and Europe (due mostly to Alan's relationship with members of Toto). So, check out this CD if you dig pop/rock music with a groove and message.

The wait is over! AF has provided us with a follow-up to his brilliant "The Test Of Time". This new CD is just as good as its predecessor, in some aspects even better. I think the songwriting is more consistent on "What We´re Made Of" (even though the quality drops a little bit on the last 2 songs - but that´s just my opinion). The performances of all artist involved is flawless. The sound is once again incredible - you can tell that this guy and his "helping hands" are total professionals. You will definitly hear major label productions that are sonically inferior to this CD, believe me! So, even though this CD is not perfect (but tell me, what CD is?), I award it with 5 stars just because of the incredible quality of songwriting, performances and production (obviously, CPAs have too much time...). This is an essential purchase for all lovers of good rock music. Buy it - and hopefully AF will deliver a follow-up in the near future.
