Album Notes

Culture Conflict, Celebrate and The DNA Song were written for a
specific reason. After her novel The English American became a
bestseller, writer/comedienne Alison Larkin found herself inundated
by questions from readers. Many wanted to know more about what she
really felt about some of the major issues raised by her book. In
increasing demand as a keynote speaker and performer, Alison
approached Emmy award winning composer Gary Schriener and said "I know
novelists don't usually sing, but I've written some lyrics in answer
to key questions I am asked again and again, and they're calling out
for some great music." There is a well-known proverb that "sometimes
what cannot be spoken can be sung". Gary was able to help Alison
create some memorable new songs to share the dramatic personal
insights inherent in her unique life story. Alison will be singing
them live at the end of appearances and speeches during 2009 and 2010
- see the appearance page on www.alisonlarkin.com to find out where.

Culture Conflict is a comic song about what it is like to be both
English and American.

Celebrate is Alison's answer to 'if you could give one piece of advice
to someone thinking of adopting a child, what would it be?''

The DNA Song is a song from the heart, on behalf of adopted people and
people born through anonymous sperm and egg donation everywhere.

A Vogue most powerful book of the season, a Family Circle Best Beach
Read and Redbook magazine's book club pick of the month, in The
English American, a novel Anglo-American writer/comedian Alison Larkin
draws from her experiences as an adopted English woman who finds her
birth parents-- and a new homeland—in the United States and weaves
them into a compulsively readable work of fiction.

"The English American is a funny, charming and poignant book - the
kind that you can't resist reading in a single day."
--Chicago Sun Times
