Alternate Route is a fitting description of this trio of Texas musicians. Influenced by a diverse genre of acoustic roots music from country, southern rock, bluegrass and cowboy ballads, they bring out the best of what Texas music is, FUN! Whether playing a back yard bar-b-que or on stage in concert, they bring the same enthusiasm to every show and make “having a good time” contagious.
Alternate Route is a three piece string band made up of three southeast Texas musicians, Steve Thrower, David Roork and Stan Davidson. Although they come from different backgrounds, their harmonies and individual talents blend for a very unique sound and style of music.
In 2003 Steve recorded “West End Wanda” which debuted at the Logon Café in Beaumont, Texas. On that same project he recorded a Fred Eaglesmith song titled “How’s Ernie?”. A friend submitted “How’s Ernie?” to Chinook Records who was co-sponsoring a Fred Eaglesmith tribute album and it was chosen from dozens of entries from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to be included on a CD titled, “20 Odd Holler’s Vol. II.” The multi-talented David Roork played mandolin on that project as well.
Stan Davidson joined Steve and David in the fall of 2004 and “Alternate Route” was born. He brought 25 years of rock and roll bass licks and some great harmony vocals to truly give the band an “Alternate Route”.
Alternate Route has played a variety of local venues and private parties throughout Southeast Texas. They have opened for Fred Eaglesmith and Australian artist Audrey Mezera. In August 2005 they released their first album, “Bait Shop Beauty” and in November they opened for future country music hall of fame artist “Billy Joe Shaver”. Over the past several years they have been playing various venues around Southeast Texas while writing and collecting material for their latest project.
In September 2009 "Cozumel Moon" was released. This album contains all original material that truly reflects the laid back redneck attitude of this group.
If you are looking for good music, good fun and good times then Alternate Route is your band. They are currently taking bookings for birthdays, retirement parties, receptions or any kind of social event with a requisite for fun!
