I bought the album yesterday after listening to some songs here and at Anton's own website. IMO "ever heard the one about..." is one of the best Canadian rock albums of the last years. The style of the music is a bit diverse. Anton mixes typical 80's Canadian AOR pop/rock with new wave influences and a good dose of progressive music. The production is almost perfect with layers of intruments and backing vocals. It is hard to find something negative about the album, maybe one or two uptempo songs are missing, but each song is brilliant on it's own. Best songs are the opener "Bare" (a more "modern" song with a brilliant verse and a very catchy chorus), "Monday" (one of the best songs with another fantastic chorus, reminds me a bit of Idle Eyes' Sandra), "Captain" (strange title, but a real highlight mixing some Sting influences with a pure Stan Meissner like chorus) and the very melodic "Rise & Fall". Anton sounds a bit like Midge Ure here while the song itself is almost pure AOR but sounding fresh and new. But also the other tracks are great. Altogether "ever..." is a very surprising album for all fans of the above mentioned bands. Most songs are real "growers" and even if there are a lot of progressive influences they always stay very melodic and not too complicated. There are not many albums like this released these days and I hope that Anton will release more music in this style and quality in the future. Read more...
