ABOUT THE NEW CD "JAZZLIKE":
Brenda Lewis' first CDs (and cassettes!) were a mix of folk, country blues, bluegrass, blues and jazz, recorded in the popular SW Ontario acoustic-eclectic duo: "LEWIS AND MOLESWORTH (aka HURT AND RUN)". These CDs enjoyed regular airplay on the CBC, BBC and CJRT (the former JAZZ-FM). Her first jazz CD: "Trio Sessions" (by "Lewis, Wilson & Shaw) was released to critical acclaim and airplay on both CBC RADIO and JAZZ-FM Toronto.
Over the past decade since then, she has been carefully collecting songs from some of her favourite Canadian songwriters whose compositions fit within the jazz idiom. The four Canadian songs which she has selected to cover on her newest CD are penned by celebrated songwriters and musicians: COLLEEN PETERSON, RICK FINES, CHRIS WHITELEY, and, NEIL YOUNG.
The result is her sophomore jazz CD: "JAZZLIKE", which features not only pieces written in the style of classic jazz standards, but also western swing, rhythm and blues, and, both steamy and rootsy torch ballads. The album is meant not only to please fans of her jazz singing, but also those fine people who have supported her musically for the past two decades, regardless of musical genre. JAZZLIKE's eight songs mark a celebration of 20 YEARS of singing professionally (both lead and backing vocals) for Lewis!
Longtime music partner and jazz guitarist extraordinaire MARGARET STOWE (http://www.margaretstowe.com/ ) joins Lewis on this recording - a recording which displays the versatility of both musicians and evidences their sheer joy of performing together. Lewis and Stowe (who have co-produced it together) have striven for a sound on the CD that represents well what you will hear at a LIVE concert with them.
This CD was recorded at Ozworld studio in Toronto by Margaret Stowe and Michelle Josef http://www.michellejosef.com/. It was mixed and engineered with expertise by Margaret Stowe. Mastering was done by Peter J. Moore at the "E" Room Toronto (Moore is renowned for his work on albums by many top artists, including: Diana Krall, Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn and The Cowboy Junkies).
