On their new EP, Animal Mind, the boys drift deep into the human psyche, where animal instincts take over. Cannibals and carcasses, scavengers and shape-shifters, time-travelers and time-bombs. All stand in for the emotional breaking point where love either takes root or rots. Sonically, Bark Hide and Horn pushes the more muscular side of their sound. Blending acoustic instrument with electric and electronic ones, the band strikes a balance between the two musical genres that put the Northwest on the map: grunge and indie-folk. If Chris Cornell and Colin Meloy threw down, who would win? Obviously Chris Cornell. But Animal Mind might just be playing in the background.
