In 1989 the performance name Beyond Reality was brought to life in Seattle, WA. With the collaboration and harmony of two friends their spirit to continue what pioneers like Sequence, Queen Latifah, Salt n Pepa and Mc Lyte had done before them. Then the lyrics were more of an outlet for what was going on in the world as well as being the cornerstone for the culture. The aspiration was to be a true female MC an intelligent, independent, modern, and strong woman.


Fast-forward to the present day and Beyond Reality is still one part of that duo emcee Kylea has been cultivating and holding down that vision since 1997. Rewind to 2002 when her then 4-year-old son Upendo “Upe” Selassie joined the group as her hype man and recently Kylea’s nephew Aaron “AB” Benson joined the group behind the wheels of steel making this a true family affair.

Beyond Reality’s sound is that of innovation, power, creativity and peace. Passion has also always been the driving force behind their music. Utilizing a more "home grown" twist the flow and ideas have always been very organic. The beats are original and beautiful without losing their sharp edge. To describe the sound is simple. Soulful, head nodding, party rocking feels good music. Like the name suggest the point is to see beyond reality, something larger than you.
