On Jan. 14th 2010 David Pierre-Louis set out to find his mom following the tragic earthquake in Haiti less than two full days prior. Upon trecking his way step by step, he was elated to find her alive and healthy. Almost immediately, his story evolved to helping in any way he could with the supplies he had in hand. Acting independently and urgently he organized the delivery of medical supplies from the neighboring Dominican Republic providing the first sign of assistance to people in his mother's community. Reality weighed heavily on his heart but, driven for solutions, David began creating a vision for returning to Haiti as soon as he could; he knew that Haiti needed more than just another "Band Aid" solution. Haiti needed a force, a movement: rebuilding Haiti with Haitians, empowering them with the means to rebuild, and to sustain their lifestyles with solutions that would enable them to do this. And so began L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE or Strength Through Unity.

Within the two weeks following David's return from Haiti his team of friends, and community members galvanized and raised enough money for him to return to Haiti and deliver the following:

Organized a Medical Clinic administered by New York partners (Marly and Qaid) in conjunction with doctors and nurses from Humanity First & provided additional medical supplies to the Humanity First Clinic in Turgeau

Bought & Distributed food to Families in Trugeau: 525 lbs. of rice, 600 lbs. of beans, 118 lbs. of cornmeal, 155 lbs. of barley, and 120 lbs. of pasta

Bought 100 large temporary housing structures made with canopies (10ft x 12ft) and tarps

Installed 2 water filtration systems, which will produce and provide over 1000 gallons per hour.

Bought art from local artists to be sold at Fundraiser in Seattle, Washington - USA

Delivered 5400 gallons of filtered, potable drinking water
