Featuring six originals and eight classics, the fourth release from The Blue Canyon Boys is their strongest effort yet. Creative arrangements, strong songwriting, soulful vocals, and powerful instrumentation will keep this one in your player for quite some time.
As First Place winners of the 2008 Telluride Band Contest, here's what folks are saying about the BCB:
“The Blue Canyon Boys is a band on the rise as evidenced by its first-place contest finish at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. “House Full Of Sorrow” is their third release (BU, July ’06 and July ’07) with 14 selections, almost half of which are originals. The performances reflect a high level of perfection with dynamic instrumentation and exhilarating vocal harmonies. Among the selections are “Lyin’, Cheatin’, Cryin’”, Hello, Who’s Calling?” and “You Better Get To Heaven”. From every aspect, “House Full Of Sorrow” is the Blue Canyon Boys most successful recording to date, placing them on the fast track for more challenging ventures." (Bluegrass Unlimited, October '09)
“This is the third release by Colorado bluegrass quartet the Blue Canyon Boys. The group, who won the band competition at last year’s Telluride Bluegrass Festival, sports impressive instrumental chops and two powerful lead vocalists in mandolin player Gary Dark and guitarist Jason Hicks, with bassist Drew Garrett’s baritone anchoring their harmonies. The group’s dexterity at adapting material to the bluegrass format is evident in the driving rendition of Pete Seeger’s Winsborough Cotton Mill Blues and their smooth, bittersweet adaptation of the Cheap Trick warhorse “I Want You to Want Me.” Both Dark and Hicks contribute strong original material, notably Hicks’ rousing gospel tune “You Better Get to Heaven,” which is also a showcase for the rapid-fire picking of banjo player Jeff Scroggins." (MP, Dirty Linen, Nov/Dec '09)
“The Blue Canyon Boys have a lot of talent and energy, and this record (Hello City Limits) has some outstanding singing and picking" (Pete Wernick)
“The high lonesome brother-duet style harmonies are alive and well in Colorado" (Brian Eyster, Planet Bluegrass)
“The Telluride competition is among the toughest, with high quality judges, all of whom are particular and discerning when it comes to judging this great music. The Blue Canyon Boys stood the test and deservedly walked away with the prize. It takes a great band to do that" (Sally Van Meter)
