Brad and Brandon Apple grew up in a musical family, and were started out in music by their grandfather who rooted them in the tradition of bluegrass and old-time music. For many years they were well known on a regional level playing the bluegrass festival circuit and regular appearances at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas.
Brandon quickly worked his way to being known as one of the finest fiddlers in the country, winning numerous fiddle competitions including the SPBGMA national fiddle contest, the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddle Championship in Athens, Alabama, and is the current 2007 Tennessee State Fiddle Champion held in Clarksville, Tennessee. He has also toured and performed with such artists as Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver and Clint Black, and has performed on such TV shows as the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, and A&E Network's "Breakfast With the Arts" program.
Brad is a winner of the prestigious Grand Lake Mandolin Championship held by Jana Jae in Grove, Oklahoma, as well as an award winning guitar player. Among his other credits are television soundtrack work, including the A&E Network program, Biography. He is also a talented songwriter, having written bluegrass songs such as "This Old Town" for Auldridge, Bennett, and Gaudreau, and "Walking the Floor Blues" for Michelle Nixon and Drive. Additionally, he is a much sought-after recording engineer, having worked 10 years for Wayne Raney Recording Studio in Drasco, Arkansas, and currently owns his own studio doing sessions for many artists.
“The idea for this project came from a longing I have for the old days when living room jams were commonplace among friends and family,” says Brad. “People, and even families don’t do these things together as much anymore, and I long for it. I wanted to re-create some of the good times that we used to have in jam sessions in our grandparent’s living room.”
"Old Time Saturday Night" features a variety of material, both original and traditional in origin. Listeners are sure to be delighted by such selections as “Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine,” “Diane’s Waltz,” the title song, and many more.
Also noteworthy is the superb recording quality that Acoustic Spectrum Studios is well known for.
