Album Notes

This music was recorded after Carla received the fatal diagnosis of ALS. The energy in the recording studio was palpable as the band knew it would be the last CD they would ever record. The songs are a mixture of folk, pop, and jazz influences. Death is a love song Carla wrote to Death upon learning of her diagnosis. What is Love is a contemplation on the very nature of the ephemeral quality of being "in love." The CD ends with a song Carla wrote with her ex-husband over 10 years earlier after the death of a friend and fellow musician. The title of the CD, "Songs About Love, Death and Wings" reflects Carla's desire to transcend the grim reality of having a very short time left to live. The wings represent that transcending.

How Much I Love This CD

I listen to this wonderful and moving CD at night and I think about life. That sounds hokey I know. But it happens to be true. Carla's voice on this CD is filled with genuine and powerful feeling of course but the songs themselves are all extraordinary because they are real and honest and brave. And out of the ordinary...they are lived and felt experience about the nature of death and our brief existence on this earth. Listening to this CD makes me feel more alive and grateful for every moment day single breath
