Album Notes

CD Baby customers have said: Kathryn K. of Coronado, CA "My wonderful piano teacher, Sam Spencer, let me borrow Shanna's cds--After one listen, I was hooked."

This CD features Shanna Carlson...a rich, warm contralto voice with unique, subtle phrasing and that clearly recognizable thing called swing. But her greatest asset is her ability to put a song across with an intensity and conviction that forces you to really feel the lyric.

There are 11 "Standards" with instrumentation ranging from piano to quintet, featuring Bill Bell on piano, Scott Steed/Seward McCain on bass, Jim Nichols on guitar, Vince Lateano on drums and 3 special guests on 3 different songs: Buddy Montgomery on vibes. PeeWee Claybrook on tenor, Jeff Sanford on soprano. 6 "Bonus Tracks," all compositions by Shanna and lyrics by Ken McKenzie. Shanna plays piano on one of these originals "Silences" and the other 5 she is backed by the fantastic Dick Hindman Trio (Dick, piano; Seward McCain, bass; Scott Morris, drums).

Wonderful Musicality...
author: SM Music
Really enjoyed this CD, even if it is a few years old. Wonderful musicianship as well as musicality, which is not as easy to come by. Broad expressive range and fine intonation, which is a delight to hear, especially in these days of rather slipshod quality standards. Musicians shine very well on featured solo spots. Shanna is an active performer, so I'm sure she's done nothing but ripen more fully and become more innovative. Would love to see a new release CD of hers . . .

This CD has a philosophy and it's all upbeat. It's not just the lyrics, but the voice and delivery too, that make this a CD to leave you feeling good. I bought this one for a gift.
