En esencia is the debut album of Colombian composers Javier Perez and Francy Montalvo.

In this album Carrera Quinta brings a new sound to the traditional Colombian music. Geners like Pasillo, Bambuco and Guabina are blend among Jazz and Rock elements.

Carrera Quinta has earn recognition in differents scenarios, like Universities, music contest, sponsor by private industry and the Department of culture of colombia. Lately, Carrera Quinta has participated in competitions around Colombia, such as the 2010 Hatoviejo-Cotrafa Music Festival, one of the most important performance competitions in Colombian traditional music, as well as the 2010 competition Festival de Nuevas Músicas Mestizas (new crossbreed musics) organized by Bogotá's Chamber of Commerce. In 2009, Francy Montalvo's composition "En Esencia" was a winner in the Colombian Cultural Department traditional composition competition. In 2006, they received a research scholarship from the Colombian Cultural Department. The research centered on the application of jazz improvisation in Colombian traditional music.

En esencia was Produced by German Dario Perez, one of the most important musicians in Colombian music recent history.
In the record each one the instruments takes the lead according to the context of the songs, the flute and the piano look back on the traditional sound of the Colombian music, while the Guitar, saxophone and the drums give a modern touch, briging closer the sound of Jazz, rock and world music.
