THE STORY OF THE FOOL first came to me many years ago on a journey through the high plains of Flagstaff, Arizona while working with an indigenous tribe. I was supporting their fight to keep ancestral lands from being overtaken by Peabody Coal Co. I was given a tarot reading by a fellow activist and pulled the card of The Fool. This card is represented by a boy standing on the edge of a cliff about to step off. He looks skyward, smiling into the sun. To the outside world he appears crazy, delusional, and about to tumble to his death. However, the viewer can clearly see a bird swooping up to meet him and carry him away into the future. Even The Boy himself doesn’t see this bird, but his foolish and unwavering faith in the universe calls him forth to act. This card was the answer I had been yearning for. I closed my eyes and saw the same reoccurring vision of the strong, loving, fearless man I longed to become. But this time I had hope. I had trust. So I took The Fool as my guide and resolved to find this man. I never forgot that moment. THE FOOL tells the story of my journey over these past ten years as I struggled to be the hero I have always wanted to be. Facing my demons, accepting my past, and releasing myself of a lifetime of shame, I have come closer to him than ever before. I share my story in hopes that others will be inspired to become their highest vision of themselves because that is our destiny. Evolution is calling us to transcend the depths of insecurities and fears that keep us from being the creators we are meant to be. Like us all, I still have a long way to go, but when I realize how far I have come on this journey, I am proud of that man I see before me.
