Only a few musicians can do it all, and Charles Alexander is one of those musicians. As a singer, songwriter and producer, Charles has created a dynamic diversity in his music for over four decades. Across generations and genres - with the help of his muses - he has evolved into a musical “Mr. Everything.”
Alexander’s musical journey began in 1968 as a member of The Black Magic Band. He had the opportunity to work with the likes of Grammy soul singer Betty Wright. Charles also performed with the legendary Chick Willis and Joe Tex. In addition, he became the keyboard player for singer Will Hatcher. This early exposure to music professionals helped Charles develop his wide-ranging styles and abilities. Composing both original music and performing covers, Alexander’s artistic goal is to produce a unique sound. He explains, “ I write only for me, The sound is mine. Even when I do another artist’s music – It’s their song, but my style.”
As a solo artist Charles is known for blending urban and r&b with soul and light jazz. “It is break-beat jazz; a unique exploration of progressive rhythm beats,” explains Alexander. Including hints of hip hop and disco, Alexander is also able to fuse reggae, salsa, blues and Caribbean music into his compositions. Indie In-Tune Magazine called Alexander an artist who “unleashes amazing original sounds; his melodies are infectious to his listeners…”
