Dramatis Personae is a short introduction to the characters that make up the plot of The Clockwork Dolls story. The literal translation of "The Mask of Drama" best suits this eclectic collection ranging from epic orchestral opera, to catchy electro-pop with Victorian stylings, to a bawdy piece taking place in a seedy cabaret. Each song tells a story about a character who will eventually make up the crew of the Dame de Fer, the ship that we call home.
Maiden Voyage - A tale of a young noble woman (Helene de Fer), from her escape from a life of boredom and a loveless arranged marriage to her future as captain of the Dame de Fer.
Blades In Autumn - The story of a young man's (Cedric Mayne) difficult task to choose between the honor of serving his Empire and the duty of the oath he made to his childhood friend.
The Ballad of Black Jack Jezebel - This is the story of a woman scorned and her path to gun down the only man to beat her at her own game.
No Guns Allowed In My Bar - A bawdy sing-along telling the story of a fateful night at a seedy cabaret and the brawl that changed its denizens lives forever.
Impartial - Prime your guns and whet your blades! The Dame de Fer is cornered and the Captain must make the difficult decision to send her crew to a fight they cannot win. As the rush of battle approaches she stirs her apprehensive crew to battle, reminding them that the skies are impartial and free of bias, and it's up to the blood, sweat, and tears of those who fight to forge their destiny.
The Iron Rose - An epic orchestral instrumental covering the arc of Book One (our next album).
Clockwork Maid - A whimsical waltz about a clockwork automaton (Allison Curval) and her never ending quest to turn a scrappy young tomboy (Helene de Fer) born into nobility into a proper young lady … good Luck …
A Safe Rest - A glimpse into the future as an older Captain holds the clockwork automaton who raised her. As the clockwork maid fades into nothingness, she sings a lullaby to guide her friend to rest.
Featuring the voice and lyrics of Helene de Fer (the ship’s fearless Captain), her automaton First Mate Allison Curval (composer and production), and Cedric Mayne (live violins) as the heroic Chief of Security. We invite you into a world of high adventure, airships, epic battles to gun slinging bar brawls, empires, and clockwork automatons. We invite you to the world of The Clockwork Dolls.

Not what you'd expect from an independant band
author: An "Impartial" review
Usually when I think of an independent band I imagine a few folks with guitars, a bass, some drums, maybe a keyboard or two. Or something along those lines (after all we have a wide variety of music out there). When I purchased this album i wasn't quite sure what to expect. Truth is, when I read "Virtual Orchestra" and "Soundtrack" with the name "Dramatis Personae" I couldn't quite conjure up an image in my head short of some really bad synthed up strings and over the top timpani.
Well, I got half of it right. Dramatis Personae is to be summed up in one word "epic", now i know this word gets thrown around a lot these days but after hearing "Blades In Autumn" and "Impartial" and the breathtaking "Iron Rose" I can't honestly think of a better word to describe this music than "epic".
Now it's not to say that the entire album is full on orchestral madness, oh no there's a dark western tune in there, there's also a nice lil shanty in there as well. Hey I even found myself waltzing to Clockwork Maid (and i'm not even a dancer).
Bottom line, it's 12.50 I spend that much on a dinner and a drink, and even less if you're downloading the mp3's I say it's worth every penny.
