The guitar covered the gas for over 14,000 miles. It was an impromptu three month music tour in the summer of 2008. I didn't book any shows for it. I would walk into a diner or saloon, and ask if I could play music for the customers in exchange for tips and food.
I tried to document all the things I saw , all the highs and lows of the ride with this album. I sing about the loss of my construction job which launched the trip, about the pure uncut freedom and loneliness that comes with life on the road, about banks foreclosing on family farms, and being down and out in California. About mountain top removal on the spine of the Appalachians, and working the blueberry season on an organic farm in Maine. About historical ship wrecks on Lake Michigan, and Interstate 90 with all of its tolls.
This album is a tried and true great traveling companion, a good helper for your next road trip. Even if you're not going on a road trip, but still seeking the thrill of the open road, pop this album in and let the songs take you on a journey through the places they were written and recorded.
