BUDDY, THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY by Alan Janes; Additional material by Rob Bettison.
Directed by Stephen Moorer. Musical Direction by Don Dally.
Golden Bough Theatre November 22 - December 31, 2006

It could be called the show that changed Carmel and is the stuff of local legend. PacRep’s Buddy broke all local box-office and attendance records, was brought back or held-over 3 times, toured to San Jose for similar successes and then was recreated in San Francisco where it won the Bay Area Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Musical, Best Ensemble and Best Leading Actor (Travis Poelle). Now – the show that started it all returns to the Golden Bough for an encore engagement! The show features over twenty of Buddy Holly's greatest hits telling his short but compelling life story along the way.

Great write up in the Monterey Herald newspaper (page 9) on Sunday about John Tucker, which segued into a synopsis of the impact of "For The Love Of Ray" Show. I have been approached by scores of people that didn't know we/I could have been so good. They want to see us on the main stage. Maybe someday.
June 2006

February 2006
This Winter's run of the "Buddy Holly" saga was a concert show called 'The Roots of Rock "N" Roll the tribute'. It was one of the greatest shows I have been perfoming in. I was singing lead on at least 5 songs, and singing in over 9. Johnny B. Goode, Tutti Frutti, You Send Me, Chain Gang, Shout, Do You Love Me (now that I can dance), and more.
The Buddy Holly show experience was learning to perform without singing. [truly a first for me in over 20 years] I was a great surprise hit. My voice and the songs made a statement that will not be forgotten. I was caught off guard myself.
June 2005
The 2004, 2005 performances of "Buddy, The Tribute Concert" was a great success! I sang three songs as lead from the 1950s era which were a great hit. I also sang background and as a guest artist for parts of the Apollo first act. Most people that heard were impressed by my growth since "Just Call Me Daniel..." was released. The Isley Brother's song "Shout" was a hit!
I am waiting for my buddy: Stephen Tosh to finish a few original songs with my brother's lyrics. He anticipates finishing them later in the year. I will be in my studio working on the tracks soon afterward. My hopes is to release a CD single, at the least, by early 2006.
In the meantime, I am working with my "Buddy" singing partner on a new group for performing in the local areas. The group is currently called the _SeaTones_ . This is in conjunction with my day job. Charmaigne and Donald Scott are combining with Lee Durley and myself to set the songlist and make it a performance before soliciting work. Keep your eyes open for a possible submission on my website about this after August or September.
August 2004
You may be pleased to know I am now building my recording studio in 'Salinas. It will be potentially ready for low budget work by January of 2005. Keep posted to leestarproductions for the contest. It needs more than just reading. It needs response.
I hope you took advantage of the Carmel or San Jose productions of "Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story". You will be happy to see it again in San Francisco. We are opening for previews on May 28, 2004, and premiering on June 9, 2004.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the theater.

It is the hottest show around, that will rock you into the night. It is an open-ended show, so go see it early, and plan to see it again.
Salinas area musicians and songwriters can check out a great contest at my website:
If you live in the Carmel, CA area, you should come see "Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story" playing at the Golden Bough Theatre. We have been performing since May, 2003, and will end the year in style. I have performed as 'Main Man at the Apollo' since the beginning, and played percussion during the final concert scene as an added performing part since August, in San Jose, CA.. We will be in Carmel from 11-20-03 through 12-21-03.
I will be singing some period songs in the special CONCERT SHOW (12-18-03); featuring songs from the show, added songs (I have no feature songs in the show), food, and special guests. It is the HOTTEST show to hit the bay in over 20 years.
Maria Elena Holly (Buddy's widow) was at the gala in San Jose, and may visit during this show run.
We have racked up over 90 perormances since opening, and may even get an opportunity to make 2 cities in 2004; but don't miss the chance to see it. It got great reviews from the San Francisco Chronicle, and this is an accomplishment for a show from Carmel.
It has also boosted my CD sales. The theatre companies have graciously sold them during the runs at no cost to me, and no added cost for you.
More.

I've put in my order for a great, new, digital recorder to track, mix, and master a new single for 2004. Keep and eye out. I would have considered doing an original album, but I need to see more funds for survival first.

Daniel Simpson is a versatile singer with a voice that soothes your heart. With him, any music is possible, but his heart is bent toward offering inspiration and joy through sound. Here are his insights:
My Desiderata:
There are some things that bring one to question their position to the world. I know mine. I have followed my dream to this day. Thankfully, my Higher Power has brought me to a place where I can become more useful as a tool. A tool that inspires love and understanding. Linking some indescribable spirit that inspires acts of love. Mixing that spirit with sounds and pictures of the mind.
This dream is filled with the power of inspiration and love. I was inspired as a child to explore the wonders of hard work and dedication. I love to be busy with actions that helps others see more of the beauty on this Earth.
My desire to sing and perform have brought me through a career spanning more than 40 years. God has blessed me with skills to survive many setbacks, which have always been the springboard to new planes of responding. But there is no better way of making music than to be able to share it with someone else that needs to feel good. This is what music does for me. It puts me in a mood that can only be excelled by the next time I share sounds again.

My thanks goes out to all persons that visit this site and purchase my product. There are few ways to know appreciation than to read the comments of those that listen, purchase, and respond. You are the salt of the earth. We are held by few strands of equality than to know somebody hears us and responds.

History.... Not all history is good, but this is. "Little Shop Of Horrors" My favorite show to perform.

During the year 2002.... Here are some newspaper articles that speak about me.
The Monterey Herald, in California, was putting it simply when they were drumming up my recent theater show with Pacific Repertory Theater Company, in Carmel, CA. The show was: "Little Shop of Horrors" this past winter. They wrote a quote from the theater director: Stephen Moorer, who was commenting :
[ The show rollicks along with vocals from Salinas-based gospel singer Daniel Simpson - reprising his role as the voice of Audrey II.
"he's Grammy-quality," marvelled Moorer. ]

The Carmel Pine Cone in it's review of "Little Shop" related the essence of my performing style: To BE what I perform.
A word about Daniel Simpson's outstanding performance of the voice of Audrey II: Simpson is an R&B and Gospel singer and he simply rocks the house. It's hard to imagine anyone doing the voice of a demented alien plant with a taste for human flesh better. Here is a truly uninhibited performer. And he really has those happy tummy sounds down.
