"The Long Road Home is substantial work, with haunting, heartfelt tunes and resonant vocals in the tradition of deep pocket singers like Gordon Lightfoot and Randy Travis." - Jonathan Takiff - Philadelphia Daily News
"With his new record, The Long Road Home, there is no question that Dan May is at his very best." - Helen Leicht - WXPN - Philadelphia
The Long Road Home, the third CD by Dan May, shows that this talented singer-songwriter has not lost his knack for churning out catchy melodies with lyrics that hit the listener right in the solar plexus. A rootsy, americana tour de force.
Singer-songwriter Dan May's career path has taken more twists and turns than a corkscrew in a hurricane. He's worked as a grave-digger, television cameraman, short-order cook, nuclear missile security guard, sold clothing in a big and tall men's store, driven an ice cream truck, delivered furniture, wrote feature stories for a daily newspaper, unloaded trucks at an amusement park, and labored in a greenhouse. All before the age of 25.
Then, while studying music composition in college, he inadvertently stumbled into an opera career that would see him singing with opera companies across the U.S. and Canada, and leaving a promising future as a singer-songwriter behind.
Cut to 15 years later, and a vocal-chord surgery that left him no longer able to meet the demands of opera. Talk about a blessing in disguise. He is now back where he belongs, writing and performing his own songs, delivered in a voice that is as unique as it is interesting.

Song Cycle
author: Joseph C. Scheib
"The Long Road Home" is a song cycle in the classic sense. Each lyric is a unique moment with its own emotions, fears and hopes. At the same time, each song is part of a pattern outlining a whole life from rebellious birth to wistful prayer for one last shot at love. "Christmas in My Hometown" is presented as a bonus track, and it is not just one more fine song among the others. It breaks a spell of a road vanishing into the horizon with the clarity of a well-known destination. After all, if one is going to take the long road home, is there a better time to arrive than Christmas?

I've shared this with friends/coworkers....all have been very impressed. I play all 3 of Dan's CDs frequently and enjoy them every time. This one has a somewhat dark undercurrent but the melodies are solid and flow gracefully throughout.
