Album Notes

"Easy Living" is the debut album by sought after jazz vocalist Darden Purcell. Taking jazz standards and re-imagining them with a modern twist, Purcell's vocals stand out as personal, reflective and creatively intuitive. Purcell builds on her years of jazz performance and study to bring "Easy Living" to an audience eager for new interpretations and stylings of classic jazz.

"Easy Living," featuring songs such as "What a Little Moonlight Can Do" and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" demonstrates Purcell's vocal flexibility and range, revealing a sensitivity, strength and maturity beyond her years. Accompanied , and produced, by Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, Chip McNeill, and also featuring an exceptional rhythm section comprised of Shawn Purcell (guitar), Chip Stephens (piano), Dennis Carroll (bass) and Stockton Helbing (drums), Purcell's "Easy Living" leads the listener on a musical journey that does not dissapoint.

"Darden's time has come...a remarkable recording from a singer of incomparable talent and depth...partnered by some of the finest jazz musicians anywhere. In a CD filled with interesting twists and turns and great songs, the treatment of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" is worth the price of admission alone."
~ Trombonist, Jim Pugh

"Once in a while you hear a jazz singer whose voice is so unique and intimately communicative, that it simply reaches out and makes you stop and listen. Darden has one of those voices. Her style is understated and yet extremely expressive with an unerring sense of pitch, swing feel and phrasing. In her first release, Darden demonstrates a sense of balance, restraint, honestly and thoughtful musicality that is usually reserved for the experienced veterans. Look out for this young lady...a formidable voice has emerged onto the scene.
~ Jazz Vocalist, Dr. Lisanne Lyons

The first thing you’ll notice about Darden Purcell when you listen to her new album “Easy Living” is the gorgeous timbre of her voice and the precision of her diction and time feel. She’s obviously a top-notch vocalist and her band includes some terrific performers.

~ Peter Solomon, WCVE-FM, Richmond VA
