Album Notes

For his third solo release, bassist David Hughes chose to record ten tunes that straddle the pop and jazz categories . The goal was to write melodies that will stick in the listeners head and with improvisation as a flavor rather than main ingredient. The album title reflects that the CDs is intended as a sonic backdrop for the open road.

Special guests are Jamey Tate on drums, who along with Hughes tour with pianist David Benoit. College classmate Magnus Fritz recorded his drums in Stockholm, Sweden. Nate Tschetter delivered piano tracks from Nashville and pianist Rique Pantoja performs on a tune dedicated to himself. Hughes recorded former Benoit sax man Andy Suzuki before he left LA for Berlin. Longtime friend and collaborator John DePatie contributed the guitars, with help on one tune from David Archuleta guitarist Pathik Desai.
