This album is a compilation of songs written since 2000, when Davida was studying at Berklee College of Music. It chronicles love, confusion, and the desire to control life and the need to let it go. Davida played all the instruments on this album except for a couple of bass and drum tracks. Davida works professionally as a music therapist and has done music therapy and music education in Africa, both experiences which she has brought into the album.
Hold your hunger, track one is about having patience. The intention was to bring in experiences from the past decade into this song of coming full circle. The ukulele and penny whistle on this track is reminiscent of the work done through the Shropshire Music Foundation in Africa.
Butterflies is meant to be somewhat of a lullaby and is about finding awe and wonder in the world.
Jade is meant to personify the idea of "being jaded."
Softshoe Dance is about modern relationships and has a tap dancer dancing during the choruses.
I Needed You is about a relationship that was needed, then needed to be in the past.
I Love Rainbows is about the simpler things that make us feel alive and came out of a session at a psychiatric hospital wherein a psychotic woman, despite her delirium, introduced a profound song lyric that inspired a simple, but loved song among fans.
Basketball is about falling in love.
Even if it Shakes is about empowering oneself using the voice. Most of the tracks on this song, from the rhythm to other layers are done with the voice.
In Child's Pose is about despite it all, trying to look forward to whatever it might be that is coming next.
Enjoy and Thanks for Listening!
