A year in the making, SHE marks Jones' departure from his usual Monkees' power pop, British rock, and rock'n'roll vaudeville. He handpicked classics and standards from the 40s through the 70s, from such composers and artists as Louis Armstrong, Burt Bacharach/Hal David, Lionel Bart, Doris Day, Johnny Mercer, Guy Mitchell, Elvis Presley, Johnny Ray, Willie Nelson and others. The project is planted in the traditions of Nat "King" Cole, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra, with smatterings of blues, country, and doo-wop.
Arrangements were conducted by Jones with long-time "fellow Dodger" Chris Andrews, with Skip Kline making significant contributions to the overall feel of the orchestrations (particularly on This Guy's In Love With You). Andrews is a notable singer-songwriter whose credits include Roger Daltrey, David Essex, Les Fleur de Lys, and others. He joined Jones in selecting the titles, and Jones bears sole production credit.
The project highlights instrumental contributions and technical support from Tim Gordon, Valerie Whyman (Williamsport Symphony Orchestra), Bob Klotz & "The Beavertown Musicians," and members of Jones' current road band.
