Album Notes

Future Brite was recorded throughout the winter/spring/summer of 2009 in New York City and Brooklyn. There was some singing done in a vocal booth that smelled like sheep perfume and a whole lot of clapping. It was produced by Jim Keller and features a mix by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Hold Steady). Guest musicians include Franz Nicolay of the Hold Steady, Native American Music Award winner Martha Redbone, and members of World/Inferno Friendship Society and Anti-Social Music. These Are Not Records has already released a limited-edition vinyl 7" with two tracks, "Books" is living a double life as a summery dance remix by electro-pop duo Shy Child, and the title track can be heard accompanying Levi's spring/summer preview.

"Demander has its own sound, touching on so many different reference points – Las Vegas, Victorian London, Saturday morning cartoons, spaghetti westerns – that the band makes one question the point of criticism at all." (Deli Magazine)

the future is brighter because this album is here now. Demander's second full-length release picks up where the excellent Unkindness of Ravens and their terrific debut self-titled EP left off. Sivan and Karen's symbiotic rhythms propel the songs forward and take you right along with them. go ahead, get lost in it all. get this record. it's great.

This NYC three-piece dark-pop/rock outfit has made a name for itself as an opening band for some big-name artists, and this album shows both why they got those slots, and why they'll likely be the headliners from here on out. With pinpoint backing tracks that often focus on precision leads but aren't averse to getting loud, the band makes sure to leave plenty of room for vocalist Karen Kanan Corrêa (who also plays bass) to take the reins and steer the songs toward their final destination. The results yield a stark mix of instantly catchy dance-rock jams, dreamily pensive ballads, and songs that overflow with energy. In the end, it's just a whole lotta fun. Play it once and you'll want to start it right back over.
