Devilish Merry fuses improvisation with traditional and contemporary forms of Appalachian and Celtic music. The band has created a dynamic, layered, and driving brand of music that bridges cultural roots and produces a totally unique sound.
Current members include, Sue Powers, banjo, vocals, Jeff Berman on lap dulcimer and percussion, Kip Ruefle on bodhran and percussion , Jan Hamilton Sota, violin, and Bob Powers on lap steel.
The unique virtuosity of Jeff Berman's Mountain dulcimer, Kip Ruefle's mastery of the modern approach to the Bodhran, Bob Powers' space rock/ blues lap steel, Jan Hamilton Sota's hard driving, improvisational fusion of Old time and Irish fiddle, L.E. McCullough's lyrical, inventive tinwhistle playing, with the Jack Kerouac bass of Sam Matthews makes this recording a Progressive Folk stand out! We had a lot of fun developing this material that was inspired by Sue Powers' return to the Western PA area.
