The toast rack, the snare drum, the djembe, the cajon, the cabassa, the harmonica, the melodeon, the melodica, the castanets, the 12 string, the nylon string, the 6 string, the bottle neck and tamborine - they are all here! The plaintive, the joyous, the harmonious and the rebellious - they are all here! The windswept, the heartless, the hopeless, the loveless, the dreamer, the balladeer - they are all here. The city street, the tenement building, the rolling river, the tall trees, the sunshine on your face - they are all here. The primal Dennis Wilson, the harmonies of the Beach Boys, the individualism of Roy Wood, the loneliness of Roy Orbison, the 'rinky dink ting a ling a chimey thing' production of Brian Wilson, the reflection of Springsteen and the heart of Woody - they are all here. Big thanks to Justine Barker of Smiling Knife for providing backing vocals on many of the tracks. Big hugs also to Bev, Sam, Johnny B and Davey Helmore. Li de da, la de de, la de la de, la la la la !
Enjoy.

Just Listen
author: Justine Barker
This album from Dick Philpot is a must for music fans who appreciate old fashioned, good songwriting with conscience and content that comments on the world we live in.
Subjects that inspire this artist are deeply varied: ‘Sub Prime’ is a poignant account on the economic climate as it hit the US; ‘The South London Stroll’ is a rockin’ piece of American sounding, slide guitar that gets your feet tapping whilst telling us about our singer’s hometown; and ‘What I Need is Your Love’ is quite simply a heartfelt, honest declaration of love.
‘Confetti’ is probably my personal favourite on this album; its pure poetry: wonderful lyrics, simple arrangement and Dick’s deeply emotive voice tearing at your conscience, the way Johnny Cash does, when he sings ‘Hurt’.
For those who haven’t heard Dick Philpot before, I would describe this album as that of the original singer songwriter; styles and subjects are widely varied, with something in there for everyone. Just listen.
