“Neighbors described it as ‘Campbell's Playhouse’. For most of the folks you'd find there, these weekend gatherings would be somewhat of a ‘reward’ if you will, for a long week of hard work. These people were mostly blue-collar folk - the kind of which I remember to have really strong, sandpaper-like handshakes. Some worked on the railroad, some worked in steel plants and some you could tell, came over directly after work, still in their shop clothes, probably from working as a garage mechanic nearby. The fun music was always there and many folks knew it. Uncle Jim told me that they derived their own term for one of these gatherings and called it a, ‘Kitchen Comalia.’ Meaning of course (Kitchen Come All Of You) ...”
