Dream Apes' debut album, Elaborate Noise, is a 2-disc set that embodies both hemispheres of the band's psyche: rock and psychedelia. Created by L.A. musician Aaron Criswell (Martian Lamps, Rucker, Extra), in collaboration with Jim Mills (Extra, Wondermints, Drill Team), Elaborate Noise is equally at home both in space and on the desert floor. The album starts off heavy with "Road Noise" and "Change Your Mind" before shifting into a varied tapestry of acoustic sounds, layers of guitar and even some pop sensibilities. It ends with the epic "Paper Dolls", moving from ethereal acoustics to atonal sound design and back for an emotional crescendo.
The untitled companion disc brings Dream Apes' other, more psychedelic edge to the fore. Comprised of instrumentals that create a range of sounds from subtle soundscapes to twisted rock, it emphasizes the many voices of the guitar and the deconstruction of the song form. The companion disc is included when ordering the physical package but not available for download.
