The title Inertial conFusion is derived, in part, from a form of experimental power generation known as Interial Confinement Fusion, a process in which nuclear fusion reactions are created by heating up compressed fuel pellets, usually with high-energy laser beams.
Inertial conFusion began in 2007 as an experiment, not only in improvisational jazz fusion, but with different recording techniques. Four songs were made available online and after receiving an encouraging response, by 2009 the experiment had morphed into an exploration of different playing and mixing techniques, as well as gear and online collaboration (two songs were finished in one day!). In early 2010 a decision was made to release the songs on CD and an additional song was recorded to even up the number of tracks. Inertial conFusion represents a glimpse into the future of the music of EL’s MystERy.
