Elisa Gold (www.elisagold.com) delivers her own blend of jazzed-up funk, hip-hop soul and bluesy rock. Her positive energy is infectious and proves that there is nothing better than listening to live music.
Her rich full tone warms your soul, while her seductive and soulful sound leaves you wanting more. Like the woman behind it, her voice is filled with passion, sorrow, joy and most of all - love.
Elisa's voice is clear, seductive and soulful ... leaving you wanting more.
As a child, Elisa listened to jazz greats like Bird, Louis, Ella, and Nina Simone; as well as Motown legends like Aretha and Marvin Gaye.
"As I got older I discovered Hip-hop, and fell in love with the beats and power of words and rhyme. I am very influenced by the music of Blackalicious, India Arie, Erika Badu, Lauryn Hill and Saul Williams, among many others. I'd also have to name Bif Naked, The Dave Mathews Band, Indigo Girls, Paul Simon, Mariah Carrey and Sarah McLaughlin. There really are SO many."
In 2000, Elisa was a semi finalist for the YTV Achievement Awards under the vocal category. When the Jerusalem Youth Orchestra came to Canada, Elisa was the featured soloist with them on Breakfast TV (CITY TV). In the summer of 2000, Elisa attended Berkley College of Music in Boston for a 5-week intensive summer program. This reputable course was an enlightening period for Elisa that helped her blossom into the musician she is today.
"It was amazing to be surrounded by so many talented, driven musicians. I had never been around so many people like that. They really pushed me to work harder."
Elisa continued her musical education in Concordia's prestigious Jazz vocal program. Here, her love and knowledge of music was fleshed out through courses in theory, history ear training and performance. Elisa studied under such talents as Madeline Therieo and Jeri Brown.
During her time at university, Elisa's was involved in both fundraisers and fronting the Funk band Montreal Sound Policy. Elisa's singing was an indispensable ingredient in creating the band's funky, distinct vibes. No matter what the gig, MSP's contagious sound would inevitably result in a crowded, grooving dance floor.
After Hurricane Katrina and Rita tore through the southern US in August 2005, destroying the city of New Orleans, Elisa realized she could use music as a means of helping the people affected by the catastrophe. She organized a benefit concert (including more than half a dozen bands) to raise money for the reconstruction of the birthplace of Jazz. The event raised over $2000 for the Music Maker Relief Foundation, and involved musicians and technicians who otherwise would have been completely unaware of the scope of the disaster.
That dedication, moral sense, and inscrutable ability to find the silver lining in any cloud, is infused into Elisa's singing. She is passionate, she's talented, she's compelling, she's riveting, and she's one of a kind.
In her world premiere CD album release of live recordings with various boutique orchestras under the Sheraton Cadwell Group (www.sheratoncadwell.com), Elisa Gold presents 12 great showtunes.
Net proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to international aid agencies such as UNICEF, World Vision, Oxfam, CARE, Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross to support disaster and poverty relief programs in less developed communities outside Canada.
Enjoy!
