And so it was on May 8 2009, the beginning of the recording process of what is now my latest album, The Obsolete Man. Essentially spending my every-other-Friday (day off work) recording the main parts to one song at a time until the completion of the recording process in December. Add a month of mixing and mastering and the final product is at a state where I’m comfortable for other ears to finally hear it. Recording this has been quite the journey. From learning the intricacies of my new recording software and hardware to expanding my musical direction with what I consider to be my most eclectic set of songs to date. All in all, a wonderful and positive experience. Listening back, it’s clear that my vast array of musical influences shows through on this album. If you listen closely, you’ll hear traces of Ryan Adams, The Cure, Guided By Voices, Simon & Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, Son Volt, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Jayhawks and more. I assure you with each listen you’ll hear new sounds you hadn’t previously and lyrics will take on new meanings, relevant or not to your own life. So why is this piece of work so important to me? Like anything else in life that you pour your heart and soul into that demands discipline, dedication and sacrifice, when you finally see the bright light at the end of the tunnel, it’s the realization that you have created a body of work that fully speaks for you and is a true reflection of your identity.
