ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Imagine African field recordings, looped, processed with digital efx, and fused with swirling synths, dark dance-club drumbeats, and an assortment of ethereal electronic ambience. Add the haunting echo of a processed trumpet, a jazzy electric guitar reverberating with hints of Steve Vai virtuosity, and the polyrhythms of an African percussion ensemble.
Founder and composer Paul Schauert sifted through his vast collection of African field recordings made while conducting research on that continent for nearly a decade and began to experiment, combining them with his own love of electronica. In 2009, Schauert began composing this music and later that same year formed Ethtronic. This trio of inventive musicians then began to build creative jazz-style improvisation around electronic frameworks. Taking cues from renowned ambient artists such as Brian Eno and Jon Hassell as well as nujazz pioneers like Nils Petter Molvaer and Eivind Aarset, Ethtronic offers innovative nujazz with an afro-centric sensibility.
