Album Notes

"This is without a doubt one of the best black metal albums of the last decade; that much is essentially inarguable. It's rare to find a band that pulls off a synthesis of modern and oldschool styles well, and rarer still to find one like Excessum that succeeds to a degree essentially unheard of in the metal scene. 'Death Redemption', the band's first and last full-length album, absurdly overshadows the vast majority of post-'94 black metal by doing the seemingly impossible: being balanced yet having an identity of its own. This quality is something that seems to have gone completely forgotten in the majority of metal, so it's an incredible relief to see that it's not wholly dead yet." 96% - Noktorn @ Metal Archives

“…This is excellent all the way through. I’d highly advise this to anyone and everyone who’s into blakk metal, any black metal at all. This album has a great 'flow' to it. Very easy to listen to all the way through, no trax to skip.” 10/10 – Metalwhore

“…Yet, in the end, Excessum have more than doubly proved their worth. Through amazing guitar-work, a tremendous vocal performance, and the song structures to back it up, Sweden’s Excessum have truly released one of the greatest, and most matured debut albums I have ever had the pleasure of hearing." 9/10 – Lunar Hypnosis

“…EXCESSUM of Sweden are an exception to the rule that black metal is dead. It’s time for a metal resurgence-could this be the next Emperor? "Darkness! Death! Damnation!"- inscribed in the album; depressing, dark, true black metal! […] Dramatic harmonization, musical know-how and pure love of the craft make for one awesome album, and EXCESSUM have created a masterpiece." 9/10 - Nocturnall Hall

"...On Death Redemption, the stand-out factors include the scorching guitar work that has many fine barraging riffs and the frightening vocals that have such a great depth to them that they cannot be ignored. […] Clearly, with Death Redemption, Excessum have the goods to keep up with the heavy weights of their frozen Scandinavian colleagues..."4/5 - Pivotal Rage

"…This is utterly bleak and dark black metal, not a cheerful note on here. And while there are so many bands out there that are trying to do the Watain, Dissection thing there are not many that succeed at it, and even less that nails it.[…] The grim, monotonous chants supplement the satanic lyrics perfectly, and combined with the fast-paced drumming and slick riffs it lays to waste the listeners mind.” 8/10 – My Last Chapter

"...Raw, gritty, brutal and nasty. Since I'm discussing black metal of ye old school variety, those are all compliments. Employing a dark and sickly melodic mien surrounded by relentlessly forward moving speed demon black metal, Excessum is harsh, fast and waaay cool. [...] Abrasive and to be embraced, Excessum's black metal sound is almost exactly the sort of sound a black metal CD should have. I've got nothing against the new school stuff but for me, this is black metal." - FishComCollective.net
