Album Notes

This is the new sound of modern R&B.

Imagine the result if you took everything great about any genre of music (be it funk, soul, hip-hop, or rock) and fused it into an R&B format. Funkilinium has accomplished this as a group that is infectious and explosive, from the hardest grooves to the smoothest ballads. The sound is completely new, yet somewhat familiar - Funkilinium plays in the tradition of the great funk and R&B acts (Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament/Funkadelic), but with a modern edge. They are totally ahead of the game, and the people are ready for it. The live show is unparalleled; Funkilinium brings to the stage the dopest beats and party atmosphere of a hot downtown dance club with the power and unbridled energy of a rock band. And let it be known that these cats can play!

Funkilinium is going to give everything you think you know about R&B a facelift. Listen to the music, check out a live show, and you will understand... you need to experience this.

This Joint Rocks
author: Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock
I would say this music is aptly named, it's Funk for the New Millenium, if I may extrapolate. The writing is very solid, and works for jazz as well as RnB but watch out, there is a driving funk as well as hard rock undertones and overtones. The reason it works for jazz is because of the deep writing style, these are not typical harmonic or rhythmic patterns. The use of the hammond organ adds a richness which is not always found in funk music, it harkens back to "Tower of Power", but just on the surface. One never loses a sense of community in this music. The Hip Hop essence comes through in some pure hip hop moments, but also in the form of sampled parts inventively mixed in, as in Bootie Earthquake. The Group "Pleasure" from the 1970s is also brought to mind, however this surpasses Pleasure in terms of harmonic innovations. There is some downright evil jam in this as well: "Bitch I Got You". One can only imagine the circumstances the writer has experienced. At this point I will say Funkilinium is one of my go-to CDs for inspiration. Yes I am from the Detroit area, now living in the south and I definitely feel this. Buy it if you can!
