Album Notes

Years ago, a band from Stanton, Virginia entreated the audience to remember that they were hearing folk music. They were the folk - the band was the music - together it worked out. From The Well tries this same encouragement.

Preparing to make an album in a studio is a daunting but sure way to build a solid set of sounds that can be listened to over and over again. Players stand alone and do their thing into a piece of complicated metal. Somewhere else, somebody is working with that microphone's signals and capturing the effort.

Now consider the alternative - capturing the wild performance - trying to make sure that what an audience experiences is remembered. That was the mindset we started with, and now the live experience can be brought to you with faithful knowledge of what this family of musical friends pulls out of themselves and their instruments with the help of a loyal audience.

These pieces were harvested in 2009 throughout a series of small concerts. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did performing them in the first place.
