Album Notes

In some respects, "Pilgrim's Progress" owes more to Joseph Campbell and "The Power of Myth" than it does to Blind Blake and Reverend Gary Davis. The music and the arrangements come out of the Piedmont style, but the lyrics have more to do with the "hero's journey," the path of life which we all follow. There are false starts, shining hours, hopes rekindled, dreams dashed and regrets. Ah, regrets. In the end, considerations of mortality. In a very real sense, this album has been a lifetime in the making and the songs are all facets of that life. Some look forward, some look back and others belong to the moment. All are part of the journey. It is not for me to say what is the truth and what the fiction in these stories. In time, we all come to see that truth has more to do with what is knowable in the heart than what is written in the pages of time. Here's hoping we'll meet should we come 'round again.....
