Album Notes

"Multi-instrumentalist, Giulio Risi has spent the last ten years in London working between Latin Jazz and Progressive Rock. Here he signs his second album, a work completely open to World Jazz. Eleven tunes played with different bands and worldwide known session musicians who absorb folkloric influences and spins of modernism to recreate a catchy sound, rich of variety and shapes."
G.M for “Musica Jazz”
----------------------------------

"Translate words into music notes, or translate notes into words, a similar operation for Giulio Risi, so that we would be tempted to speak about his Cd booklet as well as his tunes. Music beyond the music, pictures with big stains of shadows, nocturnal, sudden lightning like inner leap ups. Giulio Risi's Cd is a piece of art that ignores rests..that will stay with you..even when music is over...."

Fabrizio Ciccarelli "Jazzitalia" Magazine

----------------------------------

"It's with deep satisfaction that I'm discovering a rebirth in Italian Jazz and I can tell you that next "Cd of the week" shall be Giulio Risi's "Deep down where the heart beats no more". One of the most magnificent Cd's to have ever arrived at our radio station. The beauty of some tunes sent shivers down my spine. An explosive blend of music genres that can be accomplished only by a great artist."

"Vinilemania" Radio

----------------------------------

"Deep down where the heart beats no more" in an album that presents an attitude to move towards opposite directions, the research of many solutions to give birth to different episodes, in which Giulio Risi confronts with the giants of the past without fear.

Fabio Ciminiera for "Jazz Conventions"

----------------------------------

"Giulio is a really multifaceted artist who nourishes his intellectual curiosity by producing not only music, but literature and poetry as well. As he himself says "Deep down where the heart beats no more" is a Cd I conceived as a virtual journey around the world".

The stylistic integrity is guaranteed by the huge mastery with which Giulio Risi moves in the meanders of his compositions, and this is an absolute beacon of the integrity and seriousness of his technical and cultural preparation.

Piero Quarta for "Prove Aperte"

----------------------------------

"Giulio constructs works of taste and sophistication that keep confirming him as an artist of stature."

Keith Ames for "Musician"

----------------------------------

"Listening to Giulio's music is a dreamy journey around the world. Countries pass before your very eyes as you hear the gorgeous blend of Spanish music with Be Bop going through Latin, African, Funk and Classical Music. Splendid"

Letizia Pozzo for "Viva Verdi"

----------------------------------

"Giulio has been able to pleasurably surprise me and I assure you that, daily receiving a massive amount of Cds to review from Italy and abroad, it's now rather difficult to surprise me and give me the impression of listening to something new, something different from the usual

"Deep down where the heart beats no more" is a project whose tunes are never the same to each other and are able to renew the pleasure of the listening, with the gentleness of a beautiful soul like - I'm certain - the one he has."

Bruno Pollacci for "Anima Jazz"

Notes from Giulio :

This Cd is the result of a long and deeply needed period of loneliness. Sabbatical years spent trying to shed a light upon my very inner self, on what I am or I believe myself to be. A long and phase of time during which I fought and defeated many of my fears.

I playfully consider it to be something like a "Degree in Anthropological/Musical subjects," as it is the product of so many years of hard work and research. Research of how music can influence, mislead, exalt, dishearten or galvanize the life of a man.

The tunes contained in the album are mere attempts to break free from all those voices, melodies, harmonies that have crossed myself for years. I am firmly convinced that anything we create, we do it to simply satisfy the primary urgency to free ourselves from it, to get rid of it, to finally eradicate it from our mind so that it won't torment us anymore.

I try to give to words or musical notes - that for me are the same thing - not more importance than they indeed deserve, the same one they have in dreams.

Deep down where the heart beats no more contains a wide number of music styles: From melancholic Bolero ballads to fast Flamenco rhythms, then Funk, Swing, Samba, Calypso, Mediterranean Jazz. It also contains a symphonic tune accompanying a voice reading poetry.

“Too wide”, some may say…I can only answer what I have already written in the biography section of this website: there is not such a thing as a music style; there’s a thing called music. And the music I present is a mix that belongs to several parts of the world, rhythms of many hearts of modern and ancient civilizations.

In times of racial persecutions and wall constructions creating state borders, in times of international terrorism, of holy wars, i believe important to state that no thing is ever “too wide”, that we all share part of everyone else’s world.

Music is a thin line that borders the difference between us and the universe...
