Baltimore Born Greg Coleman, was very active in local funk bands in the early 70’s & 80’s. He performed and arranged many crowd pleasing renditions of songs that were popular at the time. He also composed original songs, (sometimes right on stage in the middle of a performance), that were well received by the audience in attendence.
Because of his abilities, he was a very sought after musician by many of the local groups that were perfoming in East Baltimore at the time. His performance credits include: Guitarist, vocalist, arranger, and composer with: “Just Because”, ”Passion Plus”, “Breeze”, and his most notable, ”Earth Quake”, where he was known as “Doctor Funk”, because of his funky rhythmic guitar style.
After several years of playing these local gigs, he became disenchanted because of the many situations where he found himself surrounded by people who had negative agendas that did not have anything to do with music.
He also got tired of dealing with people whose egos were bigger then their talents.
These circumstances, along with the bleak income potential for musicians in the Baltimore area at the time, caused Greg Coleman to drop out of the local music scene all together, (at least as far as performing in public was concerned).
However, he continued to fine tune his technical and creative skills, in the hopes that one day, when a genuine opportunity for success presented itself, he would be prepared.
In the early 90’s, that opportunity presented itself in the form of the World Wide Web, and the Entrepreneurial, Ecommerce Culture that it created.
Because of these technological advances, and the technological advances in the 80’s for musicians, known as “MIDI”(Musical Instrument Digital Interface), Greg Coleman is once again doing what he loves best, which is: writing, arranging, producing, and performing music, (including song covers), but mainly, his first love, which is the original material that he believes comes from a mystical source outside the realm of normal conciousness.
This website is the initial result of his uncontrollable passion and desire for creating the art that he loves, known as Music.
“I hope that my music will make a positive difference in my life, as well as in the life of others on this planet” Greg Coleman.
