Album Notes

On Dig the Stars, New Mexico’s Gregg Daigle Band traverses roosty Americana closer to the Grateful Dead than the Stones. Lead cut “Constant Sorrow” finds some serious musicians taking a traditional tune for a ride with a haunting arrangement. Throughout the album Daigle tears it up on guitar in a laid back fashion, often not breaking a sweat before trading off to Greg Overman’s sax. Another Daigle original “The Ghost of New Orleans” offers up a nice groove that flashes with brilliance.
With the instrumental “Flextone” Daigle draws the curtain and reveals a bit of himself, never showing off but with understated chops to spare. Stars is a fine batch of rootsy tunes, but here Daigle digs in again with Overman, setting the Dead influence aside and strutting ala Little Feat or The Band. A rich cover of “I Wonder Where You Are Tonight” is a very cool song to end the album.
