A native of Berkeley, California, Hans Larson has been soaking up the local music scene since an early age. He began writing and performing his own music after attending some of the more historic local venues such as “The Keystone Berkeley,” “The Berkley Square,” and “The Mabuhay Gardens.” With a sound reminiscent of some of the guitar greats, Hans is making his own unique contribution to the Bay Area music scene.
During the early eighties Hans took lessons from local guitar teacher and music legend Joe Satriani who ultimately inspired him to pursue his own music and build on his performance. As a young up and coming artist, Hans would listen to Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore, Carlos Santana, Michael Schenker and many of the known guitar players of the last 4 decades. He joined a bay area band called “Blind Illusion” in 1983, a progressive heavy metal band that played frequently and gained a substantial local following. “Blind Illusion” became a launching point for some other Bay Area musicians such as Les Claypool of Primus and David Godfrey of Heathen- well known musicians from the growing rock era of the 90’s.
Hans went back to school to U.C. Berkeley, where he studied music theory and music history and was a member of the University Chorus, performing alongside the symphony orchestra. He then went on to form a band with local rockers called “The Block,” and then formed and fronted “Pilgrim Beware.” He then began to appear as “stunt” guitarist with locally established “Halfhead Special” finally joining the lineup full time and eventually co-fronting the band with present GlassAttic bassist Ron Snow.
Hans’ most recent band called “Hans Larson’s Glass Attic” can be heard live around the Bay Area. This 3-piece band has an edgy rock feel, the smoothness of the blues and the cutting edge influence of Hans’ sharpened musical style.
