Album Notes

Hugh Moore's Original Passions, a series of instrumental pieces called 'cameos' are spun from the woodlands, fields, and prairies where he grew up. When Hugh began studying guitar as a child, his first instrument was an old arch top, his first instructor, a seasoned jazz man who was generous enough to offer him lessons for free. "Jazz informed my earliest understanding of the guitar. Later, I discovered the Spanish guitar about the time I started composing." Although the selections on Original Passions are not strictly jazz, neither are they classical in that sense. Many selections were born out of the long silences of a warm summer day or a chilly autumn night spent on the central Illinois farm that has been in his family for generations. This is not rural music, but music inspired by the rural landscape. The cover is an oil painting by the artist.
