West Michigan's newest record label, The Indie Secret Records, has presented a new summer compilation album which features 12 singer/songwriters on a 14 song journey through the emotions and feelings of a summer spent on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. This is the debut release from the record label, whose main focus is on the local music scene and the musicians and listeners who create it. the album is titled "Songs for a Pentwater Summer", and has been dubbed the Bonfire Collection.
The album gets its name from the type of music it is made up of. It is an acoustic album from beginning to end with a few other instruments, such as harmonica, piano, and shakers. It is very easy to get lost in the music on this album, which clocks in at over 60 minutes. The packaging of the album has unique features, such as a 100% post consumer waste from plastic water bottles CD tray; and the cardboard case is made of 100% recycled materials as well.
After spending the winter and early spring of 2009 remodeling an old apartment in Pentwater, Daniel Nugent began the summer with a new recording studio and a record label with a fresh look on the music scene. The Spare Room studio is a fully functional studio capable of high end demo and professional recordings. The remodeled suite also includes the addition of The Indie Secret Records office, which has produced and released the first ever Pentwater compilation album. The new album features all local Pentwater and West Michigan artists. Each artist who contributed their original written song can be seen performing an many different places throughout West Michigan, including The Gull Landing and Village Pub in Pentwater, James Street Station and The Blue Moon in Ludington, Mixtape Cafe in Grand Rapids, Muskegon summer Celebration and many other venues.
The artists involved with this compilation are:
Jim Dodson, Kurt Denison, Andy Henley, Travis Espinoza, Rick Magrath, Hayden Carpenter, Will Root, Cliff Litwiller, Josh Cogle, Joseph Pleva, Danny Root, and Daniel Nugent.
